This is my students, Curran Prasad, Kevin Huang, Tim Darby, and Julie Seuffert, first attempt to detect and extinguish a flame in preparation for the International Robot Fire Fighting Competition in April 2010. Their robot is equipped with a Robodyssey turret, homemade IR sensor, and one of Versas solenoid valves to release high pressure CO2. While Tim, Julie, and Currans code to find the fire worked fine, Kevins program to release the CO2 needed a minor adjustment. The issue? He didnt open the Versa valve long enough and not enough CO2 escaped with each puff.Robodyssey Systems manufactures the Mouse robot and RAMB II motherboard you see here. The robots brain is NetMedias BX-24 microcontroller, which is programmed using the BasicX language. I am the author of the worlds only BasicX textbook; if you are interested in learning how to program your own robot, see my website at www.basicxandrobotics.com.
